Move the power cord from the power surge protector (if applicable) and plug directly into an AC wall socket. Check all the cables are fully seated with the jacks. If you disconnect your stereo cable from the sound card and the loud hum goes away, then you may need to use Windows to adjust the volume control as you may be overdriving the volume settings on your speaker system. Make sure the system is plugged into a live AC socket. If the system is plugged into a surge protector, be sure the surge protector is switched on. Try to plug another device to the same AC socket and check is it working or not.

Your subwoofer should be placed at least 3 feet from your monitor and computer, preferably under the computer desk or table in a corner.
Q
7. When I put my subwoofer on my desk my monitor distorts. Why?
The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded, and this can cause distortion if it is less than 3 feet from your monitor.
